Problem: I am not signed into an account. Can someone help me with this?

I have tried to use this: ubuntu config --default-user User but ended up lopsided.

Is this a cloud image or container image or VM image? Which Ubuntu release? Which flavor?

Please edit your question to explain what you mean by "lopsided". It sounds like you are using Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) - if so, please include that information.

... fwiw the most likely explanation seems to me that there is more than one WSL distro installed, and the one whose config you are modifying is not the default - check with wsl -l
