After:

$ sudo apt install firefox
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
firefox is already the newest version (1:1snap1-0ubuntu2).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

There is not Firefox icon on the taskbar and nothing in the applications (9 dots) search. enter image description here

Firefox was installed before but was uninstalled after it stopped working.

Ubuntu version: 22.04.3 LTS

$ apt --installed list | grep firefox

  • deb packages are built for specific releases, and you've not told us yours. What you have shown though highlights that your deb package was just a stub that caused the firefox snap package to be installed (that snap package being maintained by Mozilla).

    If your system still reports itself as 22.04.3, then you're behind on applying security & other fixes/updates to your system. You can refer to fridge.ubuntu.com/2024/02/22/ubuntu-22-04-4-lts-released for the ISO release date of 22.04.4, but installed systems upgraded to 22.04.4 before that ISO release date.
